ANTHALMENTIC DRUGS

Anthalmentic Drugs consists of various groups:

1)  Benzimidazole: It causes degeneration in intestinal cells by binding to the tubulin, thus inhibiting polymerization of cytoplasmic microtubules which leads to impaired uptake of glucose. e.g. Oxfendazole, Albendazole.

2)  Tetrahydropyrimidines / Imidazothiazoles: It act as Autonomic Ganglionic Stimulant of PANS & SANS leading to muscular paralysis. e.g. Pyrantal, Morantal, Levamisole, Tetramisole.

3)  Organophosphates (Trichlorfon, Coumaphos, Haloxan, Dichlorovos).

4)  Avermectins:It biNds with GABA ligated Cl-channels leading to paralysis e.g. Ivermectin, Moxidectin, Dorammectin,.

5)  Salicylanilides: It acts by uncoupling of Oxidative phosphorylation e.g. Oxyclozanide, Nitoxynil, Closantel.

6)  Piperazine: They are GABA receptor agonists binds with Cl-channels leading to paralysis.
